Information on the Allen County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogy Society.
The Allen County Chapter was founded in 1971 as a non-profit organization.
If you are a direct descendant of a "Pre-1840" Allen County Resident, you are eligible to join the First Families of Allen County. An application must be completed and accompanied by proof of descent by June 1st of each year. If the application is rejected it may be resubmitted with further proof the following year. Certificates and pins are awarded in July of each year.
The Chapter meetings are held the third Sunday of each month, except for June, July, August and December. Since July is the First Family Month, the meeting is held on the fourth Sunday. Meetings are held at the Allen County Museum, 620 West Market Street, Lima, Ohio at 1:45 PM.
Membership entitles you to six (6) copies of the chapter newsletter each year. This publication includes club information along with current research from Allen County. The January publication includes a membership list, a surname index and a listing of Pioneer Families.
Queries are printed in each copy of the newsletter. These may be for Allen County or any family you are researching. Queries are excepted from members and non-members. There is no charge for this service.
The Chapter will respond to all correspondence. Brief requests will be handled for the price of copying and postage. Further research is avaiable from some members upon request.
All members are asked to submit their Five Generation Ancestor Charts each year. These are used to create a surname index. These charts will be filed in the Museum Library for all researchers.
The Elizabeth M. MacDonell Memorial Library is open to researchers throughout the year. Copies of print media are available for 15 cents each; copies of microfilm are 25 cents.
Annual Dues are $10.00 for a membership.
